Professional Skills& Career Paths

Through my study at UAL, I have had many opportunities to practice my professional skills, such as pop-up shows and two formal exhibitions every semester.

The weekly professional toolkit talks also enabled me to grasp the practical curatorial experience. From different artists in explaining their works and I found myself gradually becoming more interested in the work of curator during the process of creating and arranging exhibitions. So I have done an exhibition Unveil with two of my friends in October 2022 at 9 Club Row London, E1 6JX.

The exhibition lasts for four days. The curatorial work is much more complicated and difficult than I imagined. From the preliminary selection of works, to the exhibition design based on floor plan, and the production of brochures and other publicity work, there are many unexpected emergencies.

In the end, exhibition and private view were very successful, a total of 19 artists and 1 guest artist joined our exhibition, more than 100 guests came to show. These are valuable experiences I have accumulated while studying and working in London, which i’m sure can help to pave my career path to be a professional curator.

After graduation, my career plan is to return to China and continue to work in art museums and galleries in Shanghai to gain experience in curatorial work. At the same time, I will also do part-time art creation and keep thinking as an artist like we were taught in UAL.
